With saturated steam, the heat available depends entirely on pressure, while with superheated steam, there is additional heat that is proportionate to the degree of superheat. The added heat is obtained through an increased expenditure of fuel. By using a comparatively small amount of superheat, it is possible to reduce moisture at exhaust conditions and to effect an increase in the percentage of heat utilized.
