Download your favorite Engineering E-books for Free at Scribd.com

If you’re having a hard time raising funds or looking a free copy of your favorite engineering books, don’t waste more time, you’ll probably get a free softcopy of these books at Scribd.com. If youtube is a free upload and download site for videos, slideshare is a free upload and download of site of presentation materials, Scribd, on the other hand, is a free upload and download site of pdf materials – brochures, presentation, notes, eBooks, etc. And just like Youtube and Slideshare, there’s a high possibility that many of its distributed materials are copyrighted.

One of (possibly) copyrighted books that I managed to download from Scribd.com is the full edition of “Electric Power Engineering Handbook” By Leonard L. Grigsby, James H. Harlow, John Douglas. Preview of the same material (but different edition) is available at books.google.com, however, the view is limited only to some pages and the whole material is not available for download because it is copyrighted. The price of the said book is around US$100.00 but you can download a copy at scribd.com for free.

It’s probably disturbing for book publishers if they would found out that one of their published books is already available for free download at Scribd. But I assume that this website has some sort of legal policy related to the distribution of copyrighted material; I just don’t know if this is implemented well.

I am not well informed if the website is indeed distributing copyrighted materials or engaged in illegal activity but if you happen to find out, we encourage you to not participate.
