Again, A politician and Consumer Group Playing Stupidity

Date

Just a reaction to a news article today.

A close-minded consumer group when combined to a PR savvy politician  is really a big mess to the power industry and to the people who knows the issue very well.

I don’t know how MERALCO computed the 30 centavos increase in the electric bill for last month but as a consumer group, they should know all the factors that influence the price of electricity and not just focus on the issue that they always want to highlight, like MERALCO’s relation with its IPPs, to intelligently justify their stand and not just always base their statements on suspicion. My point is why it is hard for them to consider the fact that the spike in the WESM price could have a huge impact to the MERALCO generation rate even if it is only 10% of MERALCO’s portfolio.

They should not be spoon-feeding the consumers with this kind of thinking. Come on, a 10% is not small. It’s 1/5 of the whole portfolio. A Php3.00/Kwh spike in the WESM price, which, historically, is not unusual, is already equivalent to Php0.3/Kwh increase in MERALCO’s generation charge. Please come to think of that!
