Transformer Oil sampling for Oil Chemical Tests and Dissolve Gas Analysis (DGA)
Below are the photos of how the oil of a power or main transformer is extracted for Oil Chemical Testing and Dissolve Gas Analysis (DGA) Testing. For oil chemical testing, oil sample is at least two liters. Ideally, for oil chemical testing, the oil should be taken after a 24 hour of full load operation to fully extract the moisture trapped in the insulating paper and wood structure inside the transformer.
Oil sampling for DGA should be performed with extra care so that contamination of other gasses from outside of the transformer is avoided. Person taking the sample should use a syringe to avoid such contamination.
