Pelton Turbine Photo
Above is a photo of a 14 MW pelton type turbine that is being refurbished at the Tiger Machinery machine shop in the Philippines. Pelton is an impulse type turbine that converts the energy of the water to mechanical energy through the water’s momentum when it hits the bucket of the turbine. The water hitting the turbine is usually of high velocity, thus, Pelton turbine is suitable only for high head hydroelectric plants.
